Narayan peth and Narayanpet are siblings as the art form originated in Maharshtra but also migrated to Andhra during Shivaji Maharaj’s rule thus dating back to 17th century. Like all traditional silks these were worn by royalty and if you visit one of the Ashtavinayak temple at Theur you will most likely see ladies draped in a mango -yellow Narayan peth saree with green border. These sarees are known for their light weight, durability and the signature design of lustrous , vibrant contrasting border and pallu coupled with small rudraksha motifs in zari, combining in itself comfort and beauty. Narayanpet saree weaving is unique as eight sarees are made at one go on a loom . The weaving of temple border and arrowheads design in the pallu is a unique feature of all Narayanpet silk sarees.
