Narayan peth and Narayanpet are siblings as the art form originated in Maharshtra but also migrated to Andhra during Shivaji Maharaj’s rule thus dating back to 17th century. Like all traditional silks these were worn by royalty and if you visit one of the Ashtavinayak temple at Theur you will most likely see ladies draped in a mango -yellow Narayan peth saree with green border.
